Far Cry

Mixing & Mastering by David Small

Cello composed and performed by Shaun Diaz

Leave me alone let me think

Kiss me but don’t ask how I’m doin’

I only want to tilt my head to the moonlit sky

Oh I could just keep holding to this night

Leave me alone I need to rest

I’m all done being reckless

How I wrote it like a dream,

in the incomplete so sweet

You know it’s been a lot to carry

And it takes too long to think

And time keeps running off

So I walk until I’m free

Of everyone and every thought

But you know I’m gonna circle back

For that is this and this is that

When I’m alone I unbury my thoughts

Plunge my hands in icy water in the morning

And the sunbeam glints a warning,

kind of reminds me of a lullaby

And I could write a word or two before you rise

Is reality not quite the way we think?

Thunder drowns the thrum of her wings

Thrash the nest, the unfledged fall

If my arms could only hold them all

And it takes too long to think

And time keeps running off

So I walk until I’m free

Of everyone and every thought

But you know I’m gonna circle back

I won’t abandon life like that

My life unfolds

And I love it like dirt under my feet

and water in the creek

But it tears at me

Floodlight in the storm

and sandbags on the curb

Step by step and

word for word

And could we just awaken from the dream?

Shakin’ off the haze it’s empty

A fantasy will never do

But reality will ruin you

Do you think we’re a far cry from the gods?

Do you hear a soft sigh from above?

Worship how you think it ends

But we’ve a mortal life to tend

It’s rather often that I can see the end

All the far off places we imagine

I wasn’t promised afterlife

so I tend to wonder in the night

Oh what a comfort

when the moon sits by

Oh, what a comfort

With the moon

Do you think we’re a far cry?
